The war may lead Ukraine to halt exports of agricultural products, presidential aide Oleh Ustenko admitted Saturday.
In a television interview, quoted by Reuters, Ustenko, who is an economic advisor to Volodymyr Zelensky, explained that exports may come to a halt as the country may not produce enough crops to export if sowing periods have to be interrupted due to the invasion.
Ukraine has "enough reserves of grain (seeds) and food to survive for a year, but if the war continues, it will not be able to export to the world, and there will be problems," he said, stressing that Ukraine is the world's fifth largest exporter of wheat.
Recall that this week a report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned that Ukraine's economy could fall by as much as 35% if the Russian invasion continues. Forecasts call for a drop of at least 10% this year.
"The conflict could further exacerbate domestic and global energy and food prices, increasing inflation and putting pressure on fiscal and external positions," warned the IMF, which also indicated that the damage from the war will be "devastating" for the global economy
