American video game developer and publisher, Take-Two Interactive Software, has announced the completion of the purchase of mobile game producer, Zynga.
Take-Two Interactive owns several game production studios, including Rockstar Games and 2K Games. But it also owns franchises such as 'Grand Theft Auto (GTA)', 'Civilization' and 'BioShock'.
This new deal valued at $12.7 billion makes it predictable, of course, that games like GTA will be available on cell phones in the not too distant future.
The deal will indeed be fully completed before the end of June, and only then can one look forward ardently to a "GTA Mobile" version.
The exact future of Zynga under Take-Two's control is unclear. Still, Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau said he was excited about the merger since it will combine "Zynga's free-to-play experience and next-generation mobile platform with Take-Two's best-in-class features and renowned intellectual property."
As disclosed at the May 16, 2022 conference alluding to the release of GTA 5, the release of GTA Trilogy for Android and iOS has been delayed until fiscal year 2023; however it should be released between the end of this year, around November or December, and March 2023; when the fiscal year closes.
The finalization of the Zynga purchase may have caused this postponement, as they may be needing more technology in the development of this version. Most likely, Grove Street Games will work closely with this one from now on.
Zynga shares will be suspended after the market closes on Friday and will no longer be part of the Nasdaq exchange. Interestingly, it will take the position as the largest acquisition in the history of the gaming industry.
