Government wants more airline operators to join

The government intends to attract more airline operators to the national market, taking advantage of the opportunities created for the re-launching of the potential of the Mozambican airport infrastructure, with the recovery of economic activity in the country and the world.

This intention was expressed Wednesday in Maputo by the Prime Minister, Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, during the inauguration ceremony of the new Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the company Aeroportos de Moçambique, Américo Muchanga, appointed Tuesday by the Council of Ministers.

Carlos Agostinho do Rosário also challenged the new PCA to continue with the ongoing investments in the modernization and expansion of airport infrastructures in order to respond to the country's new development dynamics.

The Prime Minister also urged the incumbent to ensure that the company is profitable in order to guarantee sustainability; improve passenger and cargo traffic indicators, as well as make the national airports logistic and development centers, impacting the local economy and communities.

"The new PCA of this public company is sworn in at a time when our country and the world are registering encouraging signs of an upturn in economic growth as a consequence of the gradual easing of restrictive measures to prevent and combat Covid-19," he said.

The Prime Minister added that the company Aeroportos de Moçambique must continue to provide airport services and support to air navigation, ensuring safety and quality levels to meet the needs of its users.

"It is in this context that the company must also continue to ensure the expansion and modernization of airport infrastructure, as well as the efficient and effective management of airports and air navigation services," he stressed.
