Governo promete reforçar segurança após ataques na Reserva do Niassa

The government, through the Secretary of State for Land and Environment, Gustavo Dgedge, has promised to reinforce security after attacks claimed by terrorists in the Niassa Special Reserve.

"The government is making every effort to establish security and peace in the Niassa Special Reserve and we hope that we will soon be able to recover the sport hunting season (...), which is why we are making every effort so that it can bring both fiscal benefits and also profits for operators," reads the ANAC note quoting Gustavo Dgedge.

Quoted by Evidence newspaperHe also assured that the government would soon be holding meetings with operators with the aim of scaling up the Niassa Special Reserve in order to keep it fully operational.

"We as the Government of Mozambique are also concerned about the situation that is happening in the reserve and we hope that our Defense and Security Forces are making every effort to restore normality. We're going to have a meeting with the operators soon and we're going to visit Niassa to work out strategies together with the operators to keep the reserve fully operational," added the National Administration of Conservation Areas.

Currently, the Defense and Security Forces are still working on the ground to restore normality, and the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC) expects the sports hunting season to resume in the next few days.

According to the UNHCR, the recent attack on the Niassa Special Reserve caused more than 2,000 internally displaced people.
