The Mozambican government has promised to release the report on the shipwreck soon which caused the death of 98 people in Mozambique Island, Lunga administrative post, Nampula province.
"I think that in due course, in the next 10 or 15 days, the commission will not only come up with an exhaustive report on what happened, but also on how the government is going to resolve or minimize the situations experienced by the population that has been affected in particular," said the spokesman for the 12th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, Inocêncio Impissa, quoted by the AIM.
Speaking to the press yesterday, the spokesman said that, in addition to misinformation, the technical and mechanical conditions of the ship that sank were inadequate.
Exactly two weeks ago, the Council of Ministers set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the causes of the shipwreck.
The commission is also looking into the circumstances, causes and responsibilities of the accident, as well as making recommendations to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
The accident involved a fishing boat leaving Lunga for Ilha de Moçambique, carrying around 130 people who were fleeing an alleged cholera epidemic in that part of Nampula.
According to the local maritime authorities, the boat, which was not licensed to carry passengers, was hit by a giant wave, which caused the tragedy.
For this reason, Impissa said that "the committee that has been working on this already has preliminary information, it is now condensing the report and the report should come out with concrete measures on what actions the government is actually going to implement".
