Government has no money for magistrates... but is considering giving them weapons for personal protection

Governo não tem dinheiro para magistrados…, mas pondera alocar-lhes armas para protecção individual

The Minister for Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Helena Kida, said today that the government would not be able to satisfy some of the concerns in the magistrates' demands due to a lack of budget.

"We have come to the conclusion that some of the demands cannot be met immediately... and resolving some purely financial issues requires a budget," he said, noting that the announcement of the strike planned for August was out of time. "The budget had already been approved".

She revealed, however, that a timetable has been established to resolve what she considers to be the "legitimate concerns of the magistrates". She assured that the parties are in constant dialogue to find out what is being done.

On the other hand, speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the national religious conference, Kida said that the possibility of providing security for magistrates, including the allocation of weapons, is also on the table.

According to the minister, this perspective is analyzed individually, according to the peculiarities of the judicial cases that a magistrate is dealing with. What's more, from a weighing-up point of view, we shouldn't question those who really should carry weapons, such as the military and police in Cabo Delgado. E(Source: STV)
