The Minister of Industry and Trade, Silvino Moreno, assured this Monday (30) that there is work being done between the government and companies to guarantee food supplies in the country.
This assurance was given after a meeting with some companies from the South Africa-Mozambique Chamber of Business, following the intensification of the post-election demonstrations that have been taking place all over the country since October.
On the occasion, the Mozambican government reiterated its commitment to creating favorable conditions for business. Moreno met with representatives of companies such as Shoprite, Vodacom, MPDC, SASOL and Mozal.
According to figures from the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), the country's largest employer, more than 500 companies were vandalized during the post-election demonstrations in Mozambique. According to the CTA, at least 12,000 people are out of work as a result.
The new wave of protests that began immediately after the Constitutional Council validated the election results a week ago caused the destruction of several commercial establishments across the country, leading to a crisis in food supplies.
