Government demands dynamism to the Agrarian sector and solutions to end post-harvest losses

Prime Minister defends promotion of the food production value chain with a focus on agribusiness.

The governor made these considerations during the third session of the National Council for Food Security and Nutrition (CONSAN), held last Friday, where he made it known that the dynamism of the agricultural sector, placed at the top of the agenda of the Five Year Plan, is being accompanied through the allocation of 10% of the State Budget.

On the occasion, he stressed that the entire agricultural production value chain will be put to the test as a way to reverse a dismal picture translated into very high post-harvest losses, with levels ranging from 30 to 40%.

Carlos Agostinho do Rosário presented some not very encouraging statistics about the chronic food insecurity that continues to affect 24% of the population. He pointed out that the prevalence of chronic malnutrition among children is around 43.1% and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women of reproductive age is around 54%.
