The government announced yesterday, in Maputo, the immediate arrest of offenders involved in traffic accidents with serious fault resulting in death. As part of the same measures, the cases of overtaking irregularly, driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding above 20Km of the maximum limit established for the road being traveled, and irregular crossing of vehicles, among others, will be subject to immediate arrest, in light of the provisions of the Highway Code in effect.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), Ambrósio Sitoe, justified, in a press conference specially called for the purpose, as a more forceful posture in the application of the penalties foreseen in the legislation in force, given the growing trend in the number of road accidents in the country.
