Governo e parceiros anunciam fundos de apoio à piscicultura em Nampula

The Nampula provincial government, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), handed over equipment for the construction of fish ponds and checks worth more than 979,000 meticais this Monday (28) in the Ribáuè district..

The initiative is part of the Small-Scale Aquaculture Development Project (PRODAPE), which aims to benefit more than 1,200 families in Ribáuè, corresponding to 34% of the total number of beneficiaries in the province.

Speaking at the equipment handover ceremony, the governor of Nampula, Eduardo Abdula, pointed out that the implementation of PRODAPE has led to an increase of 22.7% in local fish production, compared to the period before the program began, and that there has also been a strong involvement of women and young people in this activity.

The governor also highlighted the importance of investing in fish farming as an engine for sustainable development, job creation and strengthening the local economy.
"This handover is not just a symbolic act - it's a real commitment to sustainable development and improving the living conditions of our communities," he said, calling on the beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly.

Implemented since 2021, the PRODAPE project also aims to help reduce poverty and improve the food and nutritional security of rural families, while promoting an increase in production and income for those involved in the aquaculture value chain.

The project is being carried out in seven of the country's provinces, with Nampula being one of the beneficiaries, with interventions in the districts of Larde, Mossuril and Ribáuè.
