This Tuesday (20), the government, through the Ministry of the Interior (MINT), signed a memorandum of understanding with Mozambique's mobile phone operators (Tmcel, Vodacom and Movitel) to set up free Emergency Lines.
According to the Mozambican government, the lines are intended to help prevent and combat crime, road accidents and other social problems.
"The emergency lines will allow citizens to have fast, efficient, cost-free and barrier-free access to emergency services in crisis situations, regardless of their location or the telephone operator they use," said the permanent secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Victor Canhemba Júnior.
The project, which is part of the Ministry of the Interior's Public Security Management System (SIGESP), is due to start next year.
He also added that the system will allow any citizen, regardless of operator or location, to access the rescue services free of charge in critical situations.
