Government provides $120 million to electrify Temane

The government approved a budget of 120 million dollars to electrify the Temane district, in Inhambane province, through a resolution of the Council of Ministers, meeting in its 40th ordinary session, this Tuesday in Maputo.

The amount comes from an agreement between the Mozambican government and the International Development Association, signed on December 3, 2021.

On that occasion, the Executive changed the name of the Agrarian Development Fund (FDA) to Agrarian Development and Rural Extension Fund, and defined its attributions, competencies, autonomy, budgetary regime, organization, and operation.

"The Decree aims to adapt the institution to the legal regime established in Decree No. 41/2018, of July 25, and to give the sector a specialized and dedicated institution in the provision of extension and assistance services in rural areas, to contribute significantly to food and nutritional security and improvement of household income," explained Inocêncio Impissa, the spokesperson for that session of the Council of Ministers.

Also in yesterday's session, the Government extinguished the Maputo Special Reserve and the Ponta d'Ouro Partial Marine Reserve and, in their place, created a National Park; approved the statute of the Competition Regulatory Authority and altered articles 11 and 17 of the Competition Law Regulation; He also approved the direct award to the Institute for the Management of State Holdings of the right to design, develop and negotiate a tourism development on Santa Carolina Island in the National Park of the Bazaruto Archipelago; and, finally, he appointed Élio Jonasse as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Television of Mozambique.
