The Cabo Delgado government considers that the military operations of the forces fighting the armed insurgency are allowing the reestablishment of basic services in points that were under rebel domination.
According to the governor of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, the national forces and their counterparts from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries and Rwanda are working hard to establish tranquility in these districts, and this hard work has allowed us to start installing basic services.
Valige Tauabo was speaking moments after a symbolic ceremony that marked the reception of 80 decoders offered by Televisão de Moçambique, means that will be set up in the districts of the province, including some affected by insurgency (Quissanga and Mocímboa da Praia), as part of the digital migration underway in the country,
For Valige Tauabo, the reestablishment of basic services is the condition for the return of the population that abandoned these places due to rebel incursions.
"Without these basic services, as we mentioned, it would be difficult for our population to return," stressed the governor quoted by Lusa.
Cabo Delgado province is rich in natural gas, but, terrorized since 2017 by armed rebels, with some attacks claimed by the extremist group Islamic State.
