Government considers the resumption of alcohol tests for motorists irreversible

Government reiterates that resumption of alcohol testing for motorists, suspended due to covid-19, is irreversible nationwide.

According to the Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications, Manuela Ribeiro, this is the only way to reduce the number of drivers who take to the roads under the influence of alcohol, a situation that has been the cause of many traffic accidents in the country.

"We have no other choice. We stopped exactly because we were at a stage of the pandemic that couldn't be circumvented, but now we can reintroduce alcohol testing, without any problem", said Manuela Ribeiro, stressing that "the mouthpieces are disposable, let's invest in this, because this is one of the problems that we all think that now that alcohol is not measured, let's drink and drive".
