The Council of Ministers approved, this Tuesday, the diploma that establishes the dates of registration for the municipal elections next year. The period set for voter registration runs from February 23 to April 5, 2023.
The spokesman for the session, Filmão Suaze, noted that as established by law, the dates set are the result of a proposal by the National Elections Commission (CNE).
"Registration for the sixth municipal elections will take place in the administrative jurisdiction areas of the local authorities," he advanced.
The country's new electoral cycle begins next year with the holding of local elections, followed by general elections in 2024 (presidential, legislative, provincial and possibly district elections).
According to CNE data advanced in June this year, the country needed 18.7 billion meticais to cover the next electoral cycle. Of this amount, 3.2 billion meticais would be allocated for the 2022 fiscal year, 6.7 billion meticais for activities in 2023.
And 8.7 billion meticais for the 2024 general elections, which should include, for the first time, district elections, despite the uncertainties about their feasibility raised at the time by the head of state, Filipe Nyusi.
