The government approved resolutions ratifying agreements on Mutual Legal Assistance in criminal matters, Extradition and the Transfer of Sentenced Persons with several countries, including Botswana, Kenya and the Russian Federation.
Meeting on Tuesday, in yet another Ordinary Session, the Council of Ministers approved instruments that affect Mozambican policy in its relations with some African countries and the Russian Federation.
These are proposals for Resolutions on Mutual Legal Assistance Agreements in criminal matters, Extradition Agreements and Transfer of Sentenced Persons Agreements, which will be submitted to Parliament.
With Botswana, the Council of Ministers approved the Assembly of the Republic Resolution ratifying the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement in Criminal Matters, as well as the Assembly of the Republic Resolution ratifying the Extradition Agreement between the two countries, both signed on October 26, 2022, in Gaborone.
With Kenya, the government approved the Resolution of the Assembly of the Republic ratifying the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the Resolution of the Assembly of the Republic ratifying the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, two instruments signed on August 10, 2023, in Maputo.
Other Assembly of the Republic resolutions approved at this session are the one ratifying the Extradition Agreement between the Republic of Mozambique and the Russian Federation, signed on May 21, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the one ratifying the Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons between the Republic of Mozambique and the United Republic of Tanzania, signed on May 8, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
According to the government document, "these agreements on criminal matters are aimed at ensuring and promoting mechanisms to improve the system of administration of justice in criminal matters".
