Governo americano já cancelou 83% dos programas de ajuda internacional

The US government has already cancelled 83% of the international aid agency's (USAID) programs, around 5200 contracts, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said yesterday.

The review of international aid, which began six weeks ago, will make it possible to save "tens of billions of dollars" on initiatives that "didn't work" and that "in some cases even harmed" the interests of the United States of America (USA), Rubio said on the social network X.

US President Donald Trump's administration is committed to maintaining only 18% of the programs, "approximately one thousand" contracts, the US Secretary of State said.

Rubio indicated that these programs "will now be managed more effectively by the State Department."

The head of US diplomacy explicitly thanked the Department of Government Efficiency, led by entrepreneur Elon Musk, for the "long hours" dedicated to carrying out this "long-awaited and historic reform".
