Governo americano disponibiliza 450 mil dólares para vítimas do ciclone Chido

The US government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide 450,000 dollars to support emergency relief efforts in response to Tropical Cyclone Chido.

In a statement quoted by AIM, USAID explains that "This critical funding will help meet the urgent needs of affected populations in Cabo Delgado province, with a focus on shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)".

One of the grants will be carried out by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and the other rapid response actions will be carried out by CARE International.

According to the same source, other USAID humanitarian partners are mobilizing existing resources to respond to immediate needs.

Chido brought heavy rains and strong winds, resulting in loss of life, injuries and significant destruction of homes and infrastructure.

Initial reports indicate that the greatest human and material losses occurred in the south of Cabo Delgado province and surrounding areas.

The statement also says that the US will continue to work closely with the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD) to coordinate the response to the cyclone.

"The U.S. government recognizes the enormous challenges faced by those affected and wants to reaffirm our solidarity. Our assistance will provide vital aid to those most impacted by the cyclone, helping to alleviate human suffering and support recovery efforts," he said.

He said that the US government remained committed to supporting Mozambique in this emergency response and to strengthening the country's resilience to future natural disasters.
