BM governor says accounts are audited by an external auditor

Governador do BM diz que contas são auditadas por um auditor externo

The governor of the Bank of Mozambique, Rogério Zandamela, clarified on Monday (27.05) in Maputo that the bank's accounts are audited by an independent external auditor and published.

"The 2023 accounts have already been published, transparency exists, whether or not the Administrative Court should audit our accounts is not up to us. We're not afraid of the audit, we work within the law," the governor stressed.

It should be noted that last week the Frelimo bench rejected an opposition proposal to include the Bank of Mozambique in the scope of the audit by the Administrative Court (TA).

Rogério Zandamela considered that the Assembly of the Republic was "visionary", having given Banco de Moçambique the instruments to be able to operate with speed, flexibility, autonomy and the necessary operational independence, thus preventing the regulator from justifying its inaction with the argument that its hands were "tied" because it lacked sufficient powers to carry out its duties.

"We work with the laws, we don't determine the laws that govern the financial system," said Rogério Zandamela at a press conference announcing the measures taken by the Monetary Policy Committee (CPOM).
