The district of Gorongosa, in Sofala, will have a reference school hospital in the near future, to be financed by the Greg Care Foundation, which manages the Gorongosa National Park.
According to Rádio Moçambique, which carried the news, it is a type three hospital unit, which in addition to providing care to the public, will also have a training component for practising health professionals.
The Gorongosa district administrator, Pedro Mussengue, says that an environmental impact study is at an advanced stage to make the project viable.
According to the source, with the hospital up and running, it will reduce the number of transfers of pregnant women or injured people to Manica or the city of Beira, as well as improving the process of diagnosing patients' illnesses.
At the moment, Gorongosa has a district health center that is crying out for upgrading due to the demand for it to be located next to national road number one (EN1), where traffic accidents occur more frequently.
