GCCC opens 1175 corruption cases

The Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) has opened more than 1,000 corruption cases in the country, of which 803 have been charged and the rest are being investigated.

Romualdo Jhonam, a spokesman for the cabinet, quoted by "Notícias", said that the data refers to the period from January to October of this year.

The source was speaking on the sidelines of the 11th National Meeting of the GCCC, an event taking place in Maputo under the slogan "Strengthening the Public Prosecutor's Office in the Prevention and Fight against Corruption and Money Laundering".

The provinces of Maputo, Sofala and Zambézia had the highest number of corruption cases.

The aim of the meeting is to analyze the procedures for speeding up proceedings, the contribution of information and communication technologies, previous crimes, the intervention capacity of the central corruption office, internal regulations and territorial coverage in terms of infrastructure.
