The hearings of people indicted in the cases of embezzlement of funds intended for Covid-19 and in the case of possible "sabotage" in the 6th grade Social Science textbooks that resulted in content errors will soon be conducted by the Central Office for Combating Corruption (CCCC).
According to a judicial source, the hearings are intended to confront and clarify, with the defendants, all the material gathered in the current instruction phase. At the end of this exercise, and if proven, all those involved will be charged and brought before the court.
Currently, efforts are underway to collect and gather as much evidence as possible in relation to these cases, which were opened without any defendants being arrested.
"The cases are rigorously being followed. At this moment, the gathering of some additional evidence is underway and soon we will begin with the hearings," said the source quoted by the newspaper "Notícias".
It should be noted that in the case of the grade 6 Social Science textbook, the GCCC has opened an investigation to ascertain the causes and circumstances that led to the errors in the textbook, and to check whether there was corruption in the procedures that led to the production of the textbook, which has many errors.
In the case of covid-19, the entity has opened a criminal case to investigate responsibility in the embezzlement and/or mismanagement of funds allocated in the context of the response to the pandemic in the country.
The investigation was prompted by the conclusions of the report that the GCCC requested from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in which the Administrative Court finds, among other situations, irregularities related to direct awards, undue payments and deviations in the application of about two billion meticais in the name of actions to combat covid-19.
