The teachers at Xai-Xai secondary school announced this Friday that they will stop all teaching activities for a period of 15 days, starting this Monday (10.06), in protest at the lack of overtime pay.
In a note addressed to the Gaza Provincial Directorate of Education and Human Development, the teachers warn that the demands could extend for several more days if there is no prompt intervention to effectively pay off the debt.
In the document that MZNews had access to, the teachers justify the measure because of the loss of patience and faith in the government's failure to comply.
The teachers are demanding payment of overtime owed for the financial years ending 2022 and 2023, including 2024.
The teachers reiterate, however, that we will not bow to the strategies of attacks by means of compulsory transfer orders, threats and any attempt to retract the exercise of our rights enshrined in article 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of Mozambique".
