GAZA introduces minimum speed not provided for in the Highway Code

GAZA introduz velocidade mínima não prevista no Código de Estrada

The National Road Administration in Gaza province has raised the level of measures to reduce the frequency and severity of road accidents.

The institution has decided to introduce new traffic signs along National Road number 1, even though they are not part of the Highway Code. The aim is to improve road safety.

The signs are being progressively introduced in places considered critical for road accidents, such as schools, hospitals, shopping centers and crowded places.

One of the major innovations is the introduction of a minimum speed of 30 km/h.

"The 30 sign is not provided for in the highway code, but because of the force with which accidents have been happening, it had to be put up. There are many places where we've had to reduce the speed, for example, to 60 km/h," said Jeremias Mazoio, ANE's provincial delegate in Gaza.

This year, at least 60 people have died in road accidents in the province.
