Natural gas exports in Mozambique reached a record high in the third quarter of 2023, exceeding 500 million dollars, according to a Central Bank report quoted by the Mozambican daily News. In the same period of 2022, the figure was 335 million dollars.
By September last year, natural gas exports had more than doubled the amount reached in 2022, amounting to 1,177 million dollars.
In 2022, natural gas exports amounted to 541 million dollars, and the previous year the figure was slightly more than half that.
The increase in natural gas exports in 2023 stems from the start, at the end of October, of operations in Area 4 of the Mozambique Rovuma Venture project, which holds 70% of the concession license.
From July to September 2023, writes the newspaperCoal exports amounted to 574 million dollars. It is the product that leads national exports. And between January and September, exports were close to 1,619 million dollars. In the 12 months of 2022, exports amounted to around 2,852 million dollars.
Overall, national exports totaled 3,714.9 million dollars by September 2023. However, the record was set the previous year when exports exceeded 8,280.9 million dollars, driven by coal.
