Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM) in Cabo Delgado today announced the death of an illegal miner who died after a mine in its concession area collapsed.

According to the MRM statement, the man died while illegally exploiting a small-scale mine at 04:00 with three other miners, one of whom sustained only minor injuries.

"The illegal mine opened by the miners will have collapsed under normal weather conditions," the statement read.

MRM data points out that since 2020, at least 25 people have died due to illegal mining in its concession area.
