Galp donates around two tons of food to the SOS Children's Village

Galp doa cerca de duas toneladas de alimentos à Aldeia de Crianças SOS

Around two tons of basic foodstuffs were collected by Galp volunteers and donated to the SOS Children's Village in Maputo city.

The action, which materializes Galp employees' commitment to the community, follows the third edition of the "Every step counts" initiative, which aims to convert any kilometer travelled by Galp employees through an app into meals.

With the delivery of these products, Galp aims to support access to quality, nutritious food that is essential for the healthy development of the children at Aldeias SOS.

"Promoting the well-being of the communities where we operate is very important to us and more and more Galp employees are giving part of their working time to voluntarily contribute to a better society," said Paulo Varela, CEO of Galp Mozambique.

The delivery of the donations was accompanied by a visit by Galp employees to the facilities of Aldeias de Crianças SOS, in order to find out about the work and day-to-day life of the shelter. On site, the Galp employees also had the opportunity to socialize with the children and "mothers" of the family homes.

"We are very pleased with Galp's contribution. This food will help in the household management of each house they had the opportunity to visit today. For us, the most important thing is the well-being of the children, which comes first and foremost from the healthy food and quality education provided," shared Aldeias SOS's National Program Director, Ailton Muchave.

The corporate social responsibility action is also being replicated in other countries where Galp operates. In Mozambique, the initiative has already brought nearly four tons of food and other goods to hundreds of people affected by hunger and food insecurity.

In 2021, the "Every Step Counts" project, in partnership with the Philadelphia Association, through its Rice, Beans and Fish program, guaranteed more than two tons of basic food and other products for the distribution of a thousand meals a day to orphaned children in nine parts of Sofala province.

And in 2022, in a joint action between Galp and the Makobo Platform, through the Missão Coração Solidário program, almost two tons of food and other products were donated to co-infect the meals served to the victims displaced by the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.
