The Tony Elumelu Foundation and its partners (the European Union, GIZ German Cooperation and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), have launched the 2nd edition of the Women's Entrepreneurship Program for Africa (WE4A), which aims to empower women by financing sustainable business projects..
The WE4A Program is being implemented in eight African countries and aims to encourage the participation of African women entrepreneurs by providing them with the tools and resources they need to develop their businesses and contribute to the economic development of their countries.
The women of Africa now have the opportunity to sign up and take part in this transformative initiative that aims to foster job creation, alleviate poverty and boost sustainable economic growth in Mozambique and on the African continent.
The entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to receive non-refundable seed capital funding of 5000 dollars to expand their businesses, in addition to world-class training and expert guidance. In the first phase of the Program, 2,000 female entrepreneurs across the African continent were funded.
To promote greater participation, UBA Bank, through the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Africa's leading philanthropic organization dedicated to the empowerment of young entrepreneurs, and its partners, is holding dissemination events in all eight implementing countries, with the session in Mozambique taking place this Wednesday in Maputo. These events are being organized in collaboration with the GIZ offices in each country and have a hybrid format, with live broadcasts and interaction between potential candidates and former beneficiaries of the Programme.
According to the Tony Elumelu Foundation's Communications and Marketing Director, Moyo Awotile, the call for applications for the second edition of the IYBA-WE4A Program has been open since October 6, 2025 and is scheduled to close in January 2026.
“These dissemination sessions aim to inform and inspire women entrepreneurs about the opportunities offered by the WE4A Program, share success stories of former beneficiaries and encourage women to apply for the Program,” said Moyo Awotile.
The program covers start-up or established entrepreneurs in any sector of the economy, Mozambican citizens with companies based on the continent and people with innovative ideas and solutions to local and global challenges.
In addition to the publicity events, the programme will also carry out other complementary activities, including hiring local influencers, monitoring the number of applications to encourage participation, organizing application clinics to help candidates with difficulties and producing explanatory videos about the different stages of the programme.
