Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is negotiating with the multinational Mozal with a view to finding internal solutions for supplying electricity to this aluminum smelter over the next few years.

The information was provided by the chairman of EDM's Board of Directors, Marcelino Gildo, quoted by the Notícias online portal.

According to this portal, the power supply contract currently existing between Mozal and South African electricity supplier Eskom ends in 2026.

Marcelino Gildo also said that Mozal itself is working to find an alternative electricity supply after 2026, explaining that talks between the two parties are still at an early stage.
