Hunger threatens more than 30,000 families in Maputo province

Updated figures from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries in Maputo indicate that around 26,000 hectares of various crops have been completely lost due to the floods.

The scenario threatens around 30,000 farming families in Maputo province, who could go hungry in the coming months.

Current figures indicate that the floods have already inundated around 71,000 hectares of crops, representing 26% of the 272,000 hectares that were plowed in the first season of the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign.

Faced with this scenario, the provincial director of Agriculture and Fisheries in Maputo, Mariamo José, appealed to partners to support the families affected by the floods and whose livelihoods depend on agriculture.
