The Permanent Commission of the Anglican Church of Mozambique was scheduled to hold an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, with the only item on the agenda being "the immediate resignation of the Bishop of Libombos," Dom Carlos Matsinhe.
The call, made by Dom himself, is thought to be one of the consequences of the widely contested election results of October 11. The results were announced by Bishop Matsinhe, who is also President of the National Electoral Commission.
There were expectations about Bishop Matsinhe's future in the church, also because the head of the CNE and former leader of the Airport Mosque, Daud Ibramogy, had fallen. The Anglican bishops, in a letter, had already expressed their displeasure with the leadership of Bishop Carlos Matsinhe.
The session of the Anglican Church's Diocesan Synod, which was due to take place on Tuesday afternoon in Chamanculo, has supposedly been canceled. The reasons are still unknown. "...but several members of the police were stationed outside and inside St. Cyprian's Parish, which increased the possibility that the meeting had taken place. Officially, there is still no information," says the Electoral Bulletin of the Center for Public Integrity.
