A teacher was caught inserting ballot papers into one of the polling stations where the repeat municipal elections are taking place in Gurué, Zambezia province.
Information circulated said that these were ballot papers in favor of the Frelimo party.
A video shared on social media shows the incident and the assault on the teacher. The police intervened to quell tempers, but an officer is also seen trying to hold one of the forged ballot papers. The purpose of the police officer's action is unknown.
On the other hand, in other Gurué polling stations the electoral process is paralyzed because there are three voting books in a single station; teachers have been prioritized in the voting process; people are being prohibited from exercising their right to vote; voters from different polling stations are crowded into the same polling station to vote.
In a video, election observer Quitéria Guirengane reports that people from other latitudes were sent to vote in Gurué and that the electoral roll was manipulated.
Updates, from 1pm
At one of the polling stations in Gurué, voters violently expelled two citizens suspected of belonging to the town of Magige. The police fired into the air to disperse the population.
At another polling station, a woman was caught trying to vote for the second time. The other voters present at the school threw her out.
Also in Gurué, a polling station was closed.
