An unclear deal between the Fundo de Investimento e Património do Abastecimento de Água (FIPAG) and Matibane Beach Resort led to more than 10 million meticais being spent in a few hours at a ceremony attended by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi.
Matibane Beach Front Resort, a luxury resort based in Mossuril district, Nampula province, which provides hotel services, received a total of 11,230,671.08 meticais from FIPAG, of which 7,847,357.08 meticais was for renting and setting up two tents and another 3,383,314.00 meticais for catering services. It was in these tents that, on August 19, participants in the inauguration ceremony of the Water Supply System in the city of Pemba were accommodated. The event was presided over by the Head of State, and will ultimately solve the concerns of more than 230 people.
However, according to the weekly Evidence, There seems to be dust in the deal between FIPAG and Matibane Beach Front Resort, the latter of which has been identified as a company in which the Head of State has interests. It is said to have been lying idle, but after the official inauguration by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Edelvina Materula, representing Nyusi, in 2022, it began to absorb various public sector events, despite being located in an area that is difficult to access.
Citing unidentified sources, the newspaper says that the amount drained by FIPAG would be enough to buy a new tent in China and pay for the freight at a lower price, around 1,600,000 meticais.
The value of this deal "is under-invoiced.... and would, by far, be enough to buy at least three tents of a similar size", says the weekly.
