The Mozambican head of state, Filipe Nyusi, reiterated today, Friday (21), that the "seeds have been sown" to strengthen cooperation between Maputo and Bissau.

"After three intense days of work on our home soil, the state visit of my Guinean counterpart, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, came to an end today. As we had the opportunity to say on the first day, the seeds have been sown for the creation of all the conditions for work and cooperation between the two peoples and countries", declared Filipe Nyusi, quoted by the RFI.

The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, today ended a state visit to Mozambique that began on Wednesday, during which a general cooperation agreement was signed between the governments of the two countries.

During the visit, the two largest opposition parties, Renamo and MDM, criticized the awarding of the Maputo City Keys to Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his visit to parliament.

Marcial Macome, a Renamo member of the Maputo Municipal Assembly, said that the Guinean president is "a figure who does not respect democratic institutions", pointing to "the way he has dealt with politics within his country, dissolving parliaments, dismissing governments".

For his part, the president of the MDM, Lutero Simango, said that Umaro Sissoco Embaló "is not a good example to follow". "We cannot associate ourselves with a state that prevents a parliament from functioning. We cannot participate in the reception of a President of the Republic who prevents the existence of a Parliament. When there is no parliament in a country, then that country cannot be classified as democratic, let alone a multi-party country that upholds the rule of law," said Lutero Simango at a press conference on Thursday.
