The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, defended yesterday, Monday, an accessible and reliable transportation system for citizens, as well as the development of digital communication in the country.
Nyusi was speaking during the inauguration of the new deputy minister of Transport and Communications, Amilton Alissone.
Addressing the incumbent and the holder of the portfolio, Mateus Magala, who was also recently invested in the post, the head of state stressed that the ministry's management must find solutions to ensure a transport system that is "available, accessible, of quality, and at acceptable costs.
The difficulties the area is experiencing, he continued, will be removed through a culture of dialogue with all actors operating in the transportation system.
Quoted by Lusa, the President of the Republic called for the development of the digital communication infrastructure in the country, stressing that the covid-19 pandemic has demonstrated the vital nature of this area.
"It is important to massify digital communication, making it accessible to all citizens wherever they are, regardless of their financial capabilities," Filipe Nyusi emphasized.
Digital technology, he continued, brings people closer together, reduces costs, and makes information available in a timely manner.
Pointing out that there are three years left before the end of the current governing mandate, Filipe Nyusi made an analogy with a soccer game, by pointing out that "sometimes, goals are scored in the last minutes.
Nyusi's reference to the need for affordable transport comes at a time when Mozambican cities are increasing travel prices for road transport, due to the rising cost of fuel, attributed to the Russia-Ukraine war.
The high prices of transport and basic necessities in the country have once again created the spectre of social tensions and demonstrations in the cities, with anonymous calls on social networks for protests against the authorities.
