The current coach of the women's basketball team of Clube Ferroviário de Maputo, Nasir Salé, is at the end of his contract. With some boldness, he is being considered a "wild card" for the coming seasons. However, the club's president, Arnaldo Manjate, is trying to dampen spirits by approaching the subject with some caution.
"Saying that he was at the end of his contract is a matter of the contract itself," he began, in an interview with Rádio Moçambique. He doesn't confirm or rule out Nasir Salé's departure. But he considers the coach a "stone to be reckoned with", and there are therefore new proposals for projects at the club.
"There are projects that the club has. We want to invest a lot in training. In the meantime, we're discussing it with the coach, to see if he embraces our project and we can move forward together," he said.
Manjate said that the coach's future depends on the outcome of the ongoing talks and, until an agreement is reached, Salé remains "part of the club".
"If we agree, within the framework of the project we have designed as a board, of course his contract will have to be renewed, and he will continue to work with us," he said.
He called for no controversy to arise over whether or not the coach would continue at the club.
"He's still part of the Railway team as long as his contract doesn't expire. He's a recognized basketball coach, so he's a rock to be reckoned with," he said, without clarifying whether the coach will remain in charge of the women's team as long as the future remains uncertain.
The club president did not say how long Salé's contract could be extended in the event of a renewal.
"We're not going to talk about an agreement that hasn't even been concluded yet. They'll find out about it in due course. What is certain is that we have challenges and a lot ahead of us. Our focus is on training and we're counting on the coach for that," he said.
