The doctors who are monitoring José Eduardo dos Santos' health condition at the Teknon clinic, in Barcelona, pulled the former president of Angola out of the induced coma on Wednesday.a.
This medical action did not have the desired effects. Eduardo dos Santos did not wake up and remained in a coma that may probably be irreversible.
However, as Negócios learned, the former Angolan head of state's heart is still beating without the aid of any kind of machine.
The former Angolan president was hospitalized last June 23rd.
Eduardo dos Santos, 79 years old, fell in his residence and only 15 minutes later the family became aware of the accident, during which time he was low on oxygen.
José Eduardo dos Santos has suffered three cardiac arrests and if he comes out of the coma he is in, it is foreseeable that he will be left with sequelae resulting from this adverse condition.
Eduardo dos Santos' deteriorating condition has already been assumed by the Presidency of the Angolan Republic.
"In recent hours, the state of health of former President José Eduardo dos Santos - hospitalized in intensive care in a clinic in Barcelona - has worsened considerably. In light of this situation, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, ordered from Lisbon where he is on a state mission, that the Minister of Foreign Affairs [Téte António] travel immediately to Barcelona in order to monitor 'in situ' and at all times, the evolution of the situation," wrote the Presidency of the Republic on its Facebook page.
