Facebook has created a new application for holding work meetings through virtual reality, Horizon Workrooms, where users can meet remotely in a virtual space with avatars.
The tech giant wants to attract virtual meeting users with this new application.
The necessary equipment ('headset', virtual reality glasses) will cost $300 and weighs half a pound.
People who do not have this device can participate in the meetings via a video call.
Up to 50 people will be able to attend these meetings, but only 16 will be able to participate in the virtual reality space with avatars.
To get the full virtual reality experience, users need to have a Facebook account.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is one of the enthusiasts of the 'metaverse', a vague concept that encompasses augmented and virtual reality with new forms of communication.
Zuckerberg hopes this will be a new way for people to use the Internet.
Virtual reality was never implemented, even during the confinement due to the covid-19 pandemic, when telecommuting became a 'new normal' for millions of workers and made applications like the Zoom video conferencing platform an everyday name.
