Ernst & Young (EY) launched the 'EY Women Talks'a program linked to female empowerment and gender inclusion. The launch, which took place at EY's offices in Maputo, began with a session on 'Women as Superhumans: Why do they doubt that they can build successful careers?
This is a program made up of a series of events, in which EY employees will be invited and stakeholders recognized in the Mozambican market to discuss various topics related to business management and leadership from a female perspective.
The project aims to create a network of influential and inspiring women who, together with EY, can build a better world through female empowerment, idea generation and gender inclusion solutions.
This session was attended by Esselina Macome, PCA of Standard Bank and CEO of FSDMOC - Financial Sector Deepening MozambiqueTaciana Peão Lopes, businesswoman and President of the Association of Women in the Energy Sector; and Gabriel Muthisse, economist and former Minister of Transport and Communications. The speakers were able to talk, share their testimonies and debate women's issues with the audience.
Also present at the event were women and men from the corporate world, linked to the financial sector, oil & gas, telecommunications, services, development agencies, public institutions, among others.
For Glayds Gande, EY Consulting Senior Manager and mentor for this initiative, "We want to create a network of influencers, both women and men, who can empower more and more women so that together we can contribute to the social change we want in Mozambique and in the world."said the EY Senior Manager.
During the session, a memorandum was also signed with NFNV - News Faces New Voices, the main women's networking agency of the Graça Machel Trust, which focuses on the expansion and influence of women in the financial sector and promotes financial inclusion.
"It is part of our mission to make sure that women have their value in the business world recognized, we have a significant percentage of female employees who hold leadership positions in the firm and we have been making our contribution but we want to do more to contribute to a better business world"said Paulo Reis, Managing Partner of the EY office in Maputo and leader of the EY Audit Department.
During the event, the consultancy also launched a campaign called '#belikeawoman', which aims to create a nationwide movement. The faces of this campaign are senior women from the corporate world in a wide variety of areas, including women from the arts. The aim is for these influential women to show their role in the professional and social register and to inspire other women and society in general to understand and value women's work.
This campaign will enable leadership training, mentoring and networking events to ensure that women from a wide range of fields are trained and also support the training of other women, so that they can also be pivotal in social transformation, together with EY.
