The Nampula City Council has expelled more than a thousand employees in this new Frelimo mandate, headed by Luís Giquira, for alleged irregularities in contracts.
Some contracts had supposedly expired and others had not been approved by the Administrative Court (TA).
Gamito Júnior, from the Defenders' Network, met with those affected by the measures on Tuesday to analyze each case and concluded that the city council is being unfair.
"We've called a meeting with the people concerned, who are here, to go through the case by case. We realize that the City Council is being unfair to people. It's coming up with a lame justification, according to which people were in an illegal situation," he said.
According to Júnior, in cases of illegality the City Council is the first to be implicated.
One of those involved promised to deal with the matter through traditional channels, which could lead to a person's death in three or four days.
"We are Macuans and we have our traditions. We're going to look for you because anyone who takes bread out of someone's mouth is an enemy," said the source.
However, Gamito Júnior said that the meeting had been called to announce that the case would be taken to court, as the law dictates, because the contracts were on time and had been approved by the TA.
"Whatever happens, the municipality will have to reinstate or compensate these people. There are people with contracts signed this year," he said.
According to Gamito Júnior, there are currently hirings based on party affiliation in the Nampula City Council.
"We, as defenders, will carry these people on our backs until the last consequences," he assured. (Source: RAM TV)
