Exports from Portuguese-speaking countries to Macau rose 65.1% in January

Exports of goods from Portuguese-speaking countries to Macau rose by 65.1% in January, compared to the same month in 2022, according to official figures released today.

The value exported by Portuguese-speaking countries to the territory stood at 124.8 million patacas (14.6 million euros) last month, according to Macau's Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).

The majority came from Brazil, worth 99.4 million patacas (11.6 million euros), mainly meat, fish and seafood. Macau also bought goods worth 25.3 million patacas (three million euros) from Portugal, namely clothing and accessories, alcoholic drinks and pharmaceutical products.

According to official figures quoted by Lusa, the bloc of Portuguese-speaking countries did not buy any goods from Macau in January. In the same month last year, the region recorded exports worth around 58,300 patacas (6,800 euros) to Portuguese-speaking countries.

Exports of goods by Macau in January amounted to 899 million patacas (103.7 million euros), down 37.2% compared to the same period in 2022, while the value of imported goods was 10.45 billion patacas (1.22 billion euros), down 24.7% year-on-year, DSEC said.

Macau's trade deficit in the first month of this year stood at 9.56 billion patacas (1.11 billion euros), down 24.3% on January last year.
