Exports from Portuguese-speaking countries to Macau rise 45%

Exports of goods from Portuguese-speaking countries to Macau, in the first nine months of the year, rose 45%, compared to the same period in 2021, indicate official data released today.

The value exported by the Portuguese-speaking countries to the Chinese special administrative region between January and September was 757 million patacas (about 93 million euros), according to a statement from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), cited by Lusa.

Meanwhile, the amount of goods imported from Macau by the Lusophone bloc fell by 77.6% in annual terms, worth one million patacas (124 thousand euros).

The September trade balance recorded a deficit of 11.7 billion patacas (1.4 billion euros), the DSEC said.

In the third quarter of this year, the values of merchandise exports and imports reached MOP2.9 billion (360 million euros) and MOP28.5 billion (3.5 billion euros) respectively, down by 6.2% and 27.7% respectively compared to the same quarter of 2021.

The trade deficit in the third quarter of this year was MOP25.5 billion (EUR3.1 billion), the DSEC added.
