Forty million meticais is the amount that those accused of orchestrating the murder of Nini Satar would receive if the project were to succeed, the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office, Mirza Bié, revealed on Thursday.
On the first day of the trial, at the Maximum Security Prison, "B.O.", in the city of Matola, Maputo province, Bié said that the plan began with Carlos Macamo, a member of the Defense and Security Forces.
"Carlos Macamo, now at large, contacted his friend and fellow subordinate, Edson Evaristo Dinis Muianga, in exchange for 40 million meticais. They also decided to contact the co-accused Leão Wilson through José Ngulele," she said, quoted this morning by Rádio Moçambique (RM).
There were two plans to assassinate Nini Satar. The first consisted of poisoning her bath water with a chemical substance that would be bought in Nampula province, and the second was to use a white weapon by someone who was in the same pavilion as the victim.
Today, the Machava Judicial Court is trying two Defense and Security Forces officers who are accused of being part of the gang that allegedly tried to assassinate Nini Satar. They are Edson Muianga, from the Rapid Intervention Unit, and José Ngulele, from the Police of the Republic of Mozambique.
Until the end of the trial, four defendants will be sitting in the dock: Leão Wilson, Edson Muianga, Damião Mula and António Chicuamba, with the fifth, believed to be the ringleader, still on the run, according to RM.
Nini Star is serving a 24-year sentence in the O.R. for his involvement in the murder of journalist Carlos Cardoso.
