This Friday (02), Kamala Harris received enough votes from the Democrats to be the Democratic Party's candidate for the White House.

According to a Portuguese Euro NewsThe announcement was made during a virtual event with supporters by the chairman of the party committee, Jaime Harrison.

"Voting began on Thursday and ends on Monday. Kamala Harris got enough votes on the first day," reads the same publication.

For her part, Kamala Harris was "honored to be the presumptive nominee for the Presidency of the United States", as she wrote on the social network X, and also said that she will formally accept the nomination next week, after the virtual roll-call vote is completed.

"I am happy to know that we have enough delegates to secure the nomination, and later this month we will gather in Chicago, united as one party, where we will have the opportunity to celebrate this historic moment together," he wrote.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention will take place in Chicago from August 19 to 22.

Joe Biden also reacted on the social network X, saying he was "proud" of Kamala's nomination.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee did not provide details on the delegate vote count, including a number or breakdown by state, during the virtual marathon-style televised event.

Harris will be the first black woman and the first Asian-American to lead a major party ticket.
