The United States of America (US) will provide an additional $116 million this year to support those displaced by armed violence in Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique, said Urza Zeya, US Under Secretary for Civil Security, Democracy and Human Rights.

"With the new amount, U.S. assistance to Mozambique this year rises to $167 million, Urza Zeya said during a press conference after a meeting with President Filipe Nyusi.

The undersecretariat also reported that it expects, that with the disbursed support will help about 800,000 IDPs. "it will serve for food and nutrition assistance and for meeting the health, water and agricultural needs of the IDPs," it pointed out.

Note that in Cabo Delgado province, there are about 800,000 internally displaced people due to the conflict, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and about 4,000 deaths, according to the ACLED conflict registration project.
