Renamo's leader, Ossufo Momade, confessed today in Maputo that the party supports and adheres to all peaceful protests, and that he himself had accepted the call for the "panellists" summoned by Venâncio Mondlane.

Responding to a question about the supposedly weak presence of the political formation in the demonstrations taking place in the country, the President said that Renamo is present because it "is the people".

The party deplores the apathy of the Assembly of the Republic (AR) and the Attorney General's Office regarding the deaths caused by the Mozambique Republic Police during the protests.

"We are concerned about the silence of the body that represents the people, watching the slaughter of Mozambicans by the police, many of whom did not take part directly in the demonstrations," he said, noting that it was time for the RA to meet to assess the current political and social situation in the country.
