The National Survey on Prevalence and Risk Factors for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (InCRÓNICA 2024) reveals that one in 20 Mozambican adults has attempted suicide.
Data presented yesterday in Maputo by Ana Mocumbi, a researcher at the National Health Institute, indicates that around 7.31 million Mozambican adults have contemplated suicide and another 4.31 million have made a suicide plan.
Data was also presented on other diseases such as obesity, hypertension and smoking.
She said that the data is preliminary, and that "usually these results are used to compare the prevalence of risk factors between countries".
In this regard, the Ministry of Health and others will work to improve prevention interventions.
The results presented today (4) provide a solid basis for better understanding the epidemiology of Mozambique, providing essential food for thought to strengthen control of the public health problem, said the representative of the Canadian High Commission in Mozambique, Ashiraf Assanei.
