United States accepts up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees

The United States is planning to accept 100,000 Ukrainian refugees who are trying to escape Russia's invasion, according to Reuters, which cites two sources familiar with the situation.

According to the Economic newspaper, the announcement comes at a time when Joe Biden, the US president, will meet this Thursday with European leaders to decide and coordinate Western actions and sanctions implemented in response to the war.

It is not yet clear how the process will work, including logistics and travel.

Not all refugees accepted from Ukraine will be part of the American refugee program, said a member of Biden's administration.

So far more than 3.5 million people have left Ukraine since the war began on February 24, according to the united nations. This is the fastest refugee movement in Europe since the end of World War II.
