UN expert on displaced people visits Mozambique

The UN expert on the human rights of internally displaced persons, Paula Gaviria Betancur, will make her first official visit to Mozambique from November 9 to 21, 2023.

According to a statement released to MZNews, during her visit the human rights expert will gather information on the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country and hold talks with the government on protection, assistance and lasting solutions for IDPs, including legal, political and institutional frameworks.

In Mozambique, the expert will travel to Maputo and the provinces of Sofala and Cabo Delgado, where she will meet with government officials, representatives of the United Nations and other human rights partners, the private sector, civil society, religious organizations and IDPs.

According to the press release, the Special Rapporteur will hold a press conference on Tuesday, November 21, at 14:30 local time, at the UNDP office.
