Rainy season could make 95,000 people dependent on food aid in Nampula

Disaster management authorities say that at least 95,000 people may need food aid in Nampula province during the rainy season, which starts in October.

The delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Management, Anacleta Titos, quoted by AIM, said that the figure refers to the most likely scenario, which could include strong winds, flooding in cities, river valleys, and possible cyclones.

"It will take more than 640,000 dollars to feed the 95,000 people," she said.

To this end, according to the source, activities are underway to raise public awareness of the dangers, and the province already has boats for possible evacuations from flood-prone areas.

Nampula is Mozambique's most populous province, with more than six million inhabitants.
